Layering In The Summer Months

This is a contributor’s blogpost …

Fashion and style can define the way we come across to other people, and choosing our personal style throughout the year can be a fun task to take on.

Once the summer hits, stores come out with a lot of different styles and colors of clothing. It can be difficult to pick just one item for your collection, and the idea of layering your clothes can be even more challenging. The good news is that we have come up with a few essential hacks for layering during the summer months which will allow you to go crazy with your style, all while making sure that can still stay comfortable in the sun.

Skirt over skirt

When we think about layering for our outfits, we often only think about layering the top half of our outfit. However, did you know that you can also use layers on the bottom half of your body? It might seem crazy to layer a skirt over another skirt, but if you choose a breezy skirt and then add a mini skirt on top you will end up with a wonderfully stylish and unique look.

One color

When you want to add depth to your outfit by layering items it can be easy to add two or three different colors into the mix. However, if you want to make a simple-looking layer for your style this summer you can use one color throughout. For example, if you are wearing a red mini dress, tie a red cardigan around your waist or wear a red colored kimono on top. It will make your outfit look more put-together and effortless.

Shorts under dress

If you want to wear a super short dress during the summer and you plan to move around a lot throughout the day, you might want to wear something underneath to make sure you don’t end up flashing at an inappropriate time. A pair of cycling shorts will be the perfect addition to the outfit. You will be able to move around freely without worrying about unwanted exposure.

The mini scarf

Do you remember Daphne from Scooby Doo? Well, she used to wear a small scarf around her neck which acted almost like a choker. If you want to layer with a scarf this year without the weight of the scarf on the rest of your body, buy a small scarf and tie it around your neck. It will make any dressy outfit look classy and cute.

Dress over skirt

If you have a maxi skirt hanging around, then you can layer this underneath your maxi dress for a butt lifting effect. The skirt will fit around your rump and help to define it so that when you put on your dress it will be perky and smooth for the entire day. It is a fashion hack which you should definitely try out this weekend.

Flowy jackets

Of course, you don’t want to be stuck wearing a tight leather jacket during the summer, so instead take a look at flowing women’s coats and jackets such as oversized denim or satin. It will give your outfit some definition while also making sure you stay breezy throughout the day.

Sleeveless

If you are wearing a spaghetti strap dress or top on a hot summer’s day, the last thing you will want to do is add extra layers around your armpits and constrict the airflow. To avoid this, choose a sleeveless jacket or blazer to layer over the top of your outfit for a feminine and classy look.

White tee under everything

A white tee is the most essential item everyone should own, and if you don’t already have a white tee in your closet you need to go out and get one for the summer. You can layer a white tee underneath scrappy dresses, under playsuits, and under pinafores for a preppy and cute style which you can carry through the season.

Make your own skort

The skort is a mash-up between a skirt and a pair of shorts. But you don’t have to go out and buy a skort when you have the tools to make your own at home! If you have a miniskirt which is a little too tight around your legs, you can cut a slit in them to make them loose and then wear a pair of shorts underneath. You have an instant skort to add to your summer arsenal and a simple layering technique to take advantage of!
