Major Health Problems & How to Keep Them at Bay

This is a contributor’s blogpost …

Everyone wishes to live a life free of illness and disease. Sadly, that only happens in a perfect world, and this planet is far from perfect. As a result, the odds of dealing with potentially deadly diseases at some point in life are quite high. However, it isn’t all doom and gloom because we can fight back. In fact, it is possible to see them off and never hear from them again. If this sounds like a good plan, it’s time to take precautionary measures. With that in mind, these are the four major health problems and how to prevent them.

Cancer

The C word is one that every person on the planet fears because it is indiscriminate. Plus, it can occur rapidly and out of nowhere, so preventing it in the first place is an excellent safety measure. To do that, there has to be an emphasis on eating healthy and avoiding obesity. Because an illness such as colon cancer has a link to weight gain, the simplest colorectal cancer treatment is to eat healthily and exercise. Of course, cutting out toxins like cigarette smoke is also helpful because of the link between cigs and lung cancer. Finally, staying out of the sun can be a literal lifesaver as too much radiation leads to sun cancer.

Heart Disease

If the C word strikes fear into people’s’ hearts, heart disease doesn’t have the same impact. In terms of mortality rate, it is a bigger killer in actual fact. Indeed, heart disease kills more people a year than pretty much any other illness. Now that you know, looking after your heart should be a priority. Again, eating a healthy and balanced diet is the key as it stops the build up of saturated fat. In turn, this keeps your cholesterol low and relieves the strain on the vital organs.

Stroke

A stroke is a nasty illness because it can happen out of nowhere. And, unlike the above diseases, it tends to affect brain capacity after the fact. Even those that survive have a considerably lower quality of life. As such, the central aim should be to stop it at the source. There are lots of ways to do it (yep, you guessed it – lose weight), but most people focus on stress. A buildup of tension is not good, especially as a stroke is a neurological condition. As a result, the added pressure can manifest itself in the onset of this deadly disease. So, working less and finding taking up a hobby are two great choices.

Dementia

Unfortunately, there isn’t any proof that the onset of dementia is treatable, yet. Still, some experts believe there are links to people with high cognitive functions. In layman’s terms, this means people who keep their brain active usually have a lower risk of contracting the illness. With that in mind, it’s imperative that you don’t let your day pass you by without giving your brain a workout.

It can be something as small as doing a crossword puzzle because every little effort helps.
