Do you fancy yourself as the next big professional athlete? Or maybe you want to make it out on the frontline of sporting journalism? Whatever type of sporting career you have in mind, it might not be as difficult to make it as you think. Here are some of the most popular careers in sport, and how you can work your way to the top of the pack.

Professional Athlete

There is one clear route to becoming a big athlete – you just need to practice, practice, practice! Just start training in your sport of choice at a local club. If you have the talent, then you will soon be spotted by your local team. If you shine when you are competing at a local level, you will, hopefully, get picked up by a national team. You might also want to apply to university scholarships for sports courses if you are particularly talented.  Sure, it takes a lot of hard work and dedication, but if you put in all the training and practice hours, you will get there in the end!

Sports Journalist

If you don’t have what it takes to take up a team sport or compete out on the track, then you might want to put your sporting knowledge to good use and become a sports journalist. These kinds of journalists are responsible for reporting on local and national sports games and matches. If you have a particular passion for one sport, you should be able to specialize and become a dedicated reporter for that one sport. Examples of famous sports journos include Fox Sport’s Katie Nolan and ESPN’s Michael Wilbon.

Sports Physiotherapist

There are lots of people who work in sport who are busy behind the scenes helping some of the greatest sporting stars win medals and achievements. One of the main occupations that help athletes is physiotherapy. As a physiotherapist that specializes in sports injuries, you will be responsible for helping to treat athletes after an injury. To become a top physiotherapist, you’ll have to go to college to train in this medical area. Then you need to get plenty of work experience under your belt before you start applying for the top jobs!

Sports Coach

Finally, you might want to think about becoming a sports coach. It’s easy to get into coaching kids – you just need to take a coaching course and then apply for a job at your local school or sports center. If you want to become a coach to professional athletes, you will need to specialize in a specific sport and then get some experience in training adults. Most professional coaches also have some experience in playing the sport that they coach. So, it’s worth joining a local team and start playing or competing for them in leagues and tournaments!

As you can see, there are numerous ways you can put sports center in your career. And getting into these different careers doesn’t have to be as difficult as you might have originally expected!
