Jesi Mendez Salon invited a few bloggers for a day of pampering at their newly opened branch at Fort Pointe Building in Bonifacio Global City.
Operating in the industry for more than 40 years now, Jesi Mendez Salon boasts a remarkable track record that generations of loyal salon-goers can attest to. The salon has grown to become a chain of more than 20 branches located in hotels, malls, and other business establishments across the country.
With Jesi Mendez, a truly inspiring man.
A graduate of Fine Arts at the University of Sto. Tomas, Jesi Mendez worked as a comic illustrator and a fashion designer before becoming a hairdresser. He was working as a fashion designer for a dress shop in Zurbaran when his love affair with hairdressing started. There was a salon below the shop. He would watch the hairdressers at work, and would instantly feel energized. He later took make-up and hairstyling courses, then worked in parlors in Malate and Angeles City.
Jesi Mendez is now a veteran makeup artist and hairstylist who has earned the admiration and trust of even the top-brass personalities in the country, including Imee Marcos, Sharon Cuneta, Pops Fernandez and Kuh Ledesma. His clients have become long-term friends, with Sharon Cuneta sending him a gift every Christmas and Imee Marcos treating him and his wife to a trip to the US.
Jesi Mendez owes his success to his ability to identify a woman’s best features and choose just the right make-up and hairstyle to flatter her face. But as Jesi himself would tell you, talent is not enough. You need to be consistent, and always provide the best service to your customers. There are a lot of talented make-up artists and hairstylists who do not succeed because they lack discipline and the right attitude.
Jesi further adds that you need to be passionate about what you’re doing, so it does not feel like work.
Jesi Mendez and his daughter Viana Mendez, a make-up artist carving her own name in the beauty industry. Mirroring her own father’s words, Viana says they owe their success to consistency and passion. Looks like he’d trained his daughter well.
After his three-year hairdressing stint in Angeles City, Jesi Mendoza opened his first Jesi Mendez Salon in Buendia. It was a hole-in-the-wall kind of parlor, with no water service or parking space. He worked non-stop from eight in the morning to eight in the evening.
His dedication proved to be fruitful. Jesi Mendez eventually became a US-licensed cosmetologist. Always striving to keep up with the trends, Jesi goes abroad twice a year to update his techniques, be it in London, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, or Hong Kong.
