You Need to KISS in Business

This is a contributor’s blogpost …

It’s so important to KISS in business. If you don’t know what this means, it’s probably not what you think. KISS stands for Keep It Simple Stupid, and interestingly enough it’s origin isn’t related to business at all. It was actually coined by the Navy who realized that their model ran far more effectively if everything remained simple. But how does it apply to businesses and business owners?

Lower Your Numbers

You don’t need a massive workforce to run a business effectively. In fact, it’s often the case that a smaller team is more effective. Particularly, if that small team is highly trained and organized compared to one that is completely uncoordinated and under trained.

If you’re worried that a smaller team isn’t getting the job done, you can think about outsourcing. Outsourcing is a brilliant way to keep things simple because you won’t be in charge of the team. Instead, you’ll be paying for a service that they will ultimately deliver. It’s a way of easing your responsibilities as a business owner.

Introduce New Tech Tricks

As well as working to build the dream team, you should be thinking about adding new tech to your business model. There are plenty of different types of tech to choose from that could ultimately strengthen your company by making things simple. For instance, you may want to think about introducing a point of sale payment processing into your company. With a POS system, you can make sure that everything can be controlled by the point of sale. Tech like this provides the only piece of equipment you and your employees need to keep the business running effectively.

Another type of tech to look into would be cloud servers. With a cloud server, you can access information about your business from anywhere. Essentially, this means that you’ll able to check your business stocks without heading down to the warehouse. Or take a look at the funds for your company without speaking to an accountant. You get the idea.

Know Your Customer

The trick to great marketing is to know your customer inside out. Once you know what your customer needs you can give them what they want. You will also be able to advertise it in a way that makes them realize you understand who they are. This is how you can easily build relationships with customers. You don’t need elaborate, extravagant marketing. You just need to show them you understand what they want. The best and simplest way to do this is with a story. Present a problem, show how it’s their problem, solve the problem and congratulations, you’ve just a won a sale!
