Is Your Career Really Right For You?

This is a contributor’s blogpost …

You’re out of college, and you’ve managed to score a great job! Yet, it’s now a few years down the line and you’re not as enthusiastic about what you’re doing anymore. It’s something that happens to a lot of us, so don’t panic! Maybe it’s time for you to look elsewhere, or maybe you just need a good long think about what you’re doing. Here are some things for you to start with if you find yourself in the same bind.

You’re Feeling Bored

Everyone feels bored with what they have to do from time to time. But if you have come to dread heading to work, and you find yourself chronically yawning when you get to your desk, it’s time to think about a change.

A lot of the time, feeling bored isn’t our fault, as our bosses or managers may not be providing the right work for us. Maybe you’re on the lookout for a little more variation that just isn’t there! This can happen a lot to people in law careers, journalism, and working in customer service sectors.

On the other hand, you could go in search of better work by asking a your supervisor a few questions. Maybe you think you could be put to better work elsewhere, or you need a few extra hours at the end of the day. Either way, speak up about your problem to try and solve it. You don’t always need to move careers.

Got Some Money Worries?

Sometimes when we’re self assured and confident enough we can take these salary issues to our boss and work them out then and there. However, if that isn’t an option, you can always start another job hunt while you’re secure in your current position.

When it comes to money worries, having a job in the first place is awesome, but if you don’t know how to fix your credit, it might be a good point to start off with checking out your salary. This can be hard to change however, as bad credit can affect a job hunt, but if you are unable to pay your bills every month, something needs to happen!

Maybe you’re in desperate need for some more money, as your credit card is stretched thin again and your report isn’t shaping up well for this month. If you have the time and ability to look into making more money with another employer, and you know your experience and skills will take you far with them, it’s definitely time to look into moving!

Make sure you know what you’re doing before making any big decisions. It’s always better to stick it out for another month or so to see if anything changes both at work and in your heart. Careers are tricky to get into, and when you feel like getting out of one, extracting yourself from the setting can be just as hard.
