The Best Jobs That Offer Flexible Hours

This is a contributor’s blogpost …

Whether you’re a parent who wants to spend more time with your children or you simply want to have more free time for doing the things you love, taking a position that offers flexible hours and the ability to organize your schedule as you would like is a great thing.

Here are some of the best jobs that offer flexible hours for your consideration:

Call Center Representative

I know that a lot of people think that working in a call center must be awful, but that really depends on the company you’re working for. If you are tasked with cold calling, which can upset people, then it probably isn’t that enjoyable, but if you’re taking calls from customers of big companies it’s likely to be a much more pleasant experience, and since more call centers are offering work from home positions with flexible hours, it’s definitely a job you should consider if you’re looking for more freedom in your life.

Realtor

Many real estate jobs are extremely flexible right now. Lots of real estate companies allow their realtors to carry out their work outside of traditional 9-5 hours, to fit in with their needs and the needs of their clients. This is even more true of you become an independent realtor with complete control over your own daily work schedule. Selling real estate is also quite lucrative with a median salary of around $44,000 per year and an upper salary level in excess of $110,000.

Life Coach

If you’re looking for a career that will give you a high level of freedom and more autonomy than you could have dreamed of, setting yourself up as a professional life coach could be just the thing for you. Helping other people work through their emotional problems, get fit and transform their lives is a very fulfilling role and it is one that you can take complete control over, working as much or as little as you like and only seeing clients when it really suits your schedule.

PR Specialist

A lot of public relations specialists are contractors, which means that they can easily create their own schedules. In order to land such a job, you will usually need to have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject, such as advertising, marketing or journalism, but if you have a flair for helping companies present their best public face, you may be able to break into the industry without any formal qualifications.

School Bus Driver

This role doesn’t pay quite as much as many of the other options in this post ($29,160 on average), but it is possibly the best role for parents because you can usually work to exactly the same schedule as your children and because you will normally get some quality time off in the middle of the day, which you can use to work on other projects, run errands or simply relax.

Tax Accountant

If you qualify as a tax accountant, not only will your skills be highly sought after, but you will also be able to work from home to a flexible schedule, carefully choosing which clients you do and do not choose to conduct work for.

Do you work flexible hours? What career path are you on?
